Start-Stop and Continuous spiral SAW pipe mills for large-diameter production
Conventional spiral mills produce large-diameter pipe by forming steel strip in a helical path and welding with SAW on ID and OD. The spiral weld distributes stress 25% more evenly than longitudinal welds, delivering superior crush resistance over 2x greater than LSAW. Two versions: Start-Stop mills (30,000-60,000 tons/year) and Continuous mills for higher throughput. Same line produces varied diameters with minimal changeover as coil width determines pipe diameter.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Pipe Diameter | 20" - 120" (508 - 3048 mm) |
| Wall Thickness | 5 - 25 mm |
| Material Grade | X42 - X80 |
| Forming Speed | 3 - 12 m/min |
| Annual Capacity | 30,000 - 80,000 tons/year |
Spiral weld geometry delivers 2x greater crush resistance compared to longitudinal alternatives
Stress distribution pattern ideal for earthquake-prone regions and high-impact environments
Cost-effective production of pipes 20"-120" with minimal operational complexity
Superior internal pressure ratings vs. longitudinal weld configurations
Minimal changeover between diameters; same line produces multiple sizes efficiently
One coil width can produce multiple pipe diameters with zero setup changes
